Overview
The Manaslu Circuit Trek circles Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), the eighth highest mountain in the world, through a restricted area of remote Gurung and Tibetan villages. Starting from Soti Khola, the trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River through deep gorges and forest to Deng, Namrung, Lho and Samagaon, beneath the immense Manaslu glacier. The route then climbs to Samdo and Dharamsala before crossing the Larkya La (5,106 m) and descending through Bimthang and Tilije to Dharapani. It is a quieter, wilder alternative to the Annapurna Circuit with outstanding mountain scenery and strong Buddhist culture.
Day to Day
Itinerary
A long drive from Kathmandu to Arughat and on to Soti Khola on the Budhi Gandaki, the trailhead for the Manaslu circuit. The road is rough in places but passes through beautiful hill scenery.
Follow the Budhi Gandaki through forest and across suspension bridges, passing waterfalls and small Gurung settlements, to Machha Khola.
Walk through a narrowing gorge with hot springs at Tatopani and climb to Jagat, the checkpoint for the Manaslu restricted area.
Climb through oak and rhododendron forest above the river to Deng, a small Tibetan-influenced village with traditional flat-roofed houses.
A steady climb through forest and past mani walls and chortens to Namrung, where the valley opens and the first views of Manaslu appear.
Walk through the villages of Lihi and Sho, with views of Manaslu and Himalchuli, to Lho, home to a large monastery and a famous sunrise viewpoint.
A short climb past yak pastures and the Pungen Gompa to Samagaon, the largest village on the circuit and the main acclimatization stop beneath Manaslu.
Hike to Manaslu Base Camp (about 4,800 m) or to Birendra Lake and the Pungen Gompa, then return to Samagaon to rest before the high pass.
A gentle climb along the valley to Samdo, a Tibetan village close to the Chinese border, with views of the Larkya Glacier and Manaslu's north face.
A short climb to the seasonal shepherds' settlement of Dharamsala at the foot of the Larkya La. Rest and prepare for an early pass crossing.
Start before dawn and climb to the Larkya La for views of Manaslu, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal and the Annapurna II range. A long descent over the glacier moraine leads to the meadows of Bimthang.
Descend through rhododendron forest and past the villages of Karche and Gho to Tilije, re-entering the Annapurna Conservation Area.
Walk down to Dharapani on the Annapurna Circuit road and drive to Besisahar or Kathmandu depending on the group's plan.
Return by road to Kathmandu or Pokhara, arriving in the afternoon.

Annapurna Circuit is one of the best trekking trails in the world in terms of its outstanding scenery. This trail lies in the northwestern Himalayas of Nepal. Annapurna Circuit Trek is also called Annapurna Round trekking because it circles the Annapurna massif. The trek offers an amazing panorama of snowy Mt. Manaslu (8187 m), Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Hiunchuli, Mt. Gangapurna, Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and many other Himalayan peaks. The highest point of the Annapurna Circuit is the Thorong La (5416m), considered the longest mountain pass in the world.
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a popular moderate trekking trail in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Annapurna Base Camp is one of the best options for trekking because it offers a fascinating view of mountains arranged in a way that forms a loop. Also known as Annapurna Sanctuary trekking, it is the most celebrated trekking holiday package in Nepal. The trail includes Ghorepani, Poon Hill, and Ghandruk, offering diverse terrains, culture, and wildlife.
Mohare Trek is a community-based eco-trek in the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri region. This off-the-beaten-path trek offers stunning mountain views, authentic village experiences, and the chance to stay in Rajkumar's home village of Tikot. Perfect for those seeking a quieter, more culturally immersive trekking experience.
The Annapurna I Base Camp Trek, also known as the North Annapurna Base Camp or Narchyang Trail, is a short but adventurous route to the north face of Annapurna I (8,091 m), the first 8,000-metre peak ever climbed. Starting from Narchyang near Tatopani in Myagdi district, the trail follows the Myagdi River through rhododendron forests, waterfalls and the remote Panchakunda (five sacred lakes) before reaching the base camp at 4,190 m. Unlike the crowded Annapurna Sanctuary route, this is a quiet camping trek with raw alpine scenery and very few other trekkers.
